Ah, the dreaded book hangover! And I’m so sad to say I’m feeling the hangover today. I’ve just finished reading the fourth installment of Cinda Williams Chima’s Seven Realms Series, The Crimson Crown. It’s so sad when a book ends and even more so when it’s the end of a series. It’s like saying goodbye to friends when you leave for college. You know life will never be the same and yet you can’t help but look to the future an wonder what it may hold. I guess you could say the same is true of leaving one book behind and looking ahead to the next. But where to go from here?
Finding that next book to fill the void can sometimes seem impossible. Do you search on amazon for hours hoping to stumble across a gem? I’ve done that for years. I’ll even sometimes wander around bookstores hoping for a cover to catch my eye. But, I think my days of wandering are over. Recently, I’ve discovered the amazing world of goodreads.com.
How did it take me so long to catch on??? What rock have I been hiding under? You’d think a lover of books like myself would’ve stumbled across this treasure trove sooner. I only hope that if you, like me, hadn’t heard of Good Reads I’ve saved you some trouble.
This easy to navigate website has hundreds of titles. All you have to do is pick the genres and books you enjoy reading. Based on your selcections, it will provide dozens of suggestions for books to read next! Scroll over the title and a quick blurb pops up. Once you’ve selected some books you can organize your “book shelves” to keep track of what you’ve read, what you’re reading, and what you want to read next. Searching for your next great read has never been easier. I especially like that it allows you to make a quick review and provides a picture of the book’s cover. Because let’s be honest, we all judge a book by its cover. (Does it always make a great book? Absolutely not! But, I’m definitely going to give it a chance if the cover catches my eye.)
Needless to say, thanks to my new best friend, Good Reads, my book hangover hasn’t been too bad. I know there are a dozen awesome books on my virtual shelf. In fact, I can’t wait to jump in to my next read, A Spy in the House, by Y.S. Lee.
What book will you read next?
